To make a dog-shaped photo collage, start with a template already cut to your dog's outline, add your own photos in Canva, then download a PDF and print it. On Huge Photo Collage you preview the design free for any of 25 breeds, buy the template for $9.99, and fill it in a free Canva account.
Step 1: choose your dog's breed
Pick your breed from our dog photo collages. There are 25, including the Dachshund, Labrador, Golden Retriever, French Bulldog and German Shepherd.
Step 2: decide how many photos you have
Each outline needs a minimum number of photos so the shape stays filled, and it varies by breed: 9 for a Golden Retriever, 15 for a Pug, 17 for a Dachshund and 30 for a Labrador. The print size sets the maximum. Here are the numbers for the Dachshund:
| Print size | Suggested photos | Most photos |
|---|---|---|
| 30 × 20″ | 45 | 275 |
| 36 × 24″ | 70 | 375 |
| 40 × 30″ | 80 | 525 |
| 54 × 36″ | 150 | 875 |
| 60 × 40″ | 180 | 1,075 |
Every breed page has its own table. If your dog has only a few good photos, choose a smaller print so each one stays large.
Step 3: preview it free
Open the free designer and choose your size and photo count. It shows how big the collage will be on a wall and how large each photo will print. There's no sign-up, and your photos are never uploaded to us.
Step 4: buy the template and fill it in Canva
The template costs $9.99, one payment with no subscription. The download link arrives in your confirmation email. Upload the file to Canva, which works on a free account, then replace every sample photo with your own. The samples are low resolution, so any you leave in will print soft. Our Canva guide shows each step.
Step 5: download a PDF and print
Download from Canva as a PDF with the Print preset. PNG and JPG downloads come out too coarse for a print this size. Print it yourself or take the PDF to any print shop. It's a digital file, so nothing is shipped. Our printing guide covers where to print.
Questions
Can I make a dog-shaped collage in Canva without a template?
Yes, but you would be cutting the outline and placing every frame by hand, which gets slow as the photo count grows. A template gives you the outline and the frames already placed.
What if my dog's breed isn't listed?
Choose the closest outline, or a different shape such as a heart or your dog's name.
Can I make one in memory of a dog?
Yes. Many of the same designs work as a keepsake. See our Dachshund memorial collage and pet memorial collages.
