How many photos fit on a big print

These numbers come from the layout engine, not a rule of thumb. The last column is how wide each photo prints when the sheet is full.

So 500 photos sit happily on a 36 × 54″ print at about an inch and a half to two inches each, depending on the design, and 1,000 photos fill a 40 × 60″ print at about an inch and a half each, the size of a big postage stamp. Faces are still easy to pick out up close, and from across the room the whole wall reads as one huge, warm story.

One note: a PowerPoint file can't declare a page bigger than 56 inches, so the 40 × 60″ file opens in Canva at 93% of full size and is printed at 107%.
