70th birthday photo collage: seventy years of stories in one frame
At seventy, the stories are the treasure. The photos from the old house, the first car, the wedding day, the children, then the grandchildren climbing all over them. A 70th birthday photo collage cut to the number 70 turns those stories into something they can see every single day, and something the grandkids will stand in front of, pointing and asking, "Is that really you?"

70 years, 700 photos
Ten photos for every year makes 700. On a 60 × 40″ landscape print each one comes out a little under an inch across: a mosaic of a whole life. Prefer bigger photos for older eyes? Choose fewer: two for every year, 140 photos on the same print, come out about two inches each.
What to put in it
- Black-and-white childhood photos and school portraits
- Their parents, brothers and sisters
- The wedding and the first family home
- Work, service and the proudest moments of their career
- Every grandchild, from newborn to now
- The places they love: the garden, the workshop, the golf course, the beach
Words for under the number
- Happy 70th Birthday Dad
- Seventy years young
- 70 years of wisdom, laughter and love
- The heart of our family
- Thank you for everything
A gift that starts conversations
Hang it where the family gathers. Every visit becomes a chance for the stories behind the photos: the house that's gone now, the car that never started, how they met. Those stories are the real gift, and the collage keeps them coming.
How to make a 70th birthday photo collage
- Design it free. Open the designer, choose a print size and how many photos, and see the 70 on a wall before you pay. Watch the 3-minute tour.
- Fill it in Canva. After checkout ($9.99) the template downloads instantly. Open it in a free Canva account and replace every sample photo with your own. Our Canva guide shows each step.
- Print it anywhere. Download a print-ready PDF and ask any print shop or online printer for it at actual size. Most print shops can print a poster in a day or two.
What size to print
The bigger the print, the more photos fit. These are the most photos a number collage holds at each size; choose fewer and each one prints bigger.
| Print size | Holds up to |
|---|---|
| 30 × 20″ | 275 |
| 36 × 24″ | 375 |
| 40 × 30″ | 525 |
| 54 × 36″ | 875 |
| 60 × 40″ | 1,075 |
For 700 photos, ten for every year, choose 54 × 36″ or larger. The 70 still reads clearly from as few as 9 photos.
Questions
Their old photos are only in albums. Can I still use them?
Yes. Lay the album pages flat by a window and photograph each print with your phone, or use a free photo-scanning app. A slightly soft scan looks perfectly fine at collage size.
Will the photos be too small to see?
Only if you choose a lot of them. For large, easy-to-see pictures, use fewer: 140 photos on a 60 × 40″ print come out about two inches across, and on a 40 × 30″ about an inch and a half.
What do I get?
A Canva template with the 70 already cut and every photo space placed, for $9.99. It downloads instantly; you open it in a free Canva account, drop in your photos, type your words and print it anywhere.
Can I add their name and the date?
Yes. Type any words under the 70 in Canva: their name, the date of the party, or a line like the ones above. You can change the font and colour to match the party.
How long does it take to make?
Designing it takes a few minutes. Filling it depends on how many photos you choose: a few dozen is a quick job, and a few hundred takes an evening or two, so start a week or two before the party. Sharing the photo hunt with family makes it faster.
